Job Description
This position is responsible for bed assignments and the various duties surrounding bed placement of scheduled and unscheduled cases (ED patients, direct admits and those from the surgical/procedure suites. ) In addition to accurate and timely data entry, an understanding of appropriate placement, appropriate status, census reconciliation and management of the electronic bedboard is required.
Job Duties
Completes the Admitting process:
Takes request for beds from physicians and /or offices, external hospital facilities and internal departments
Screens for medical necessity appropriateness for level of care
Completes the pre-admission info in Transfer Center Software
Appropriately assigns patients to the correct nursing unit based on the patient’s diagnosis, condition and patient type
Exhibits Excellent Customer Service Skills:
Promotes positive relationships with all customers, both internal and external
Follows scripting related to answering the phone
Displays a professional and friendly attitude at all times
Consistently goes above and beyond to meet customer needs in a timely fashion
Alerts superiors to potential problems so that resolution can be implemented in a proactive fashion
Meets customer survey satisfaction targets
Follows Hospital / Departmental Procedures and is Compliant with Regulations
Accurately obtains and enters admission source code and admission type
Timely entry of all data
Performs census reconciliation at least once daily
Contacts supervisor or management when units do not respond timely to requests
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
Accurately Enters Demographic Information:
Accurately obtains patient demographic information and enters it into the medical information system
Works to avoid creating duplicate medical records
Works to ensure the correct medical record number is used
Responsible for covering, and/or calling in employees when needed (ie. ) sick, vacation, holiday, etc. to meet The Patient Logistics Center needs in a cost efficient manner.
Responsible for on-the-job training of new Senior Admission Specialist. Also responsible for information flow to update and reinforce procedures and changes to ensure quality work.
Meets productivity requirements by answering phone calls in a timely fashion and responds to requests timely.
Seeks to make improvements in work and assures that those improvements align with departmental and organizational strategy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM

Education, Credentials, Licenses:
High School Graduate
Experience with Teletracking and Epic - preferred
Specialized Knowledge:
Medical Terminology
Communication Skills
Demonstrates Organizational Skills
Public Relations/ Customer Service awareness
Understanding the impact of accurate admission process on hospital operations
Ability to multitask
Understanding and knowledge of Medical Necessity
Epic, Word, Excel - preferred
Kind and Length of Experience:
Minimum one and ½ years of experience in a healthcare setting including experience in a related area, i. e. admitting, registration or nursing unit clerical role.
Experience working with computerized systems and working in a fast paced environment .
Preferred Three years of experience in a healthcare setting including experience in a related area
