The Project Accountant is responsible for ensuring that all vendor and customer financial records are accurate and current.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Review customer contract billing guidelines and budgets, including project timelines and fee structures.
Prepare pre-billing reports for project owners to review.
Prepare and issue monthly customer invoices in accordance with contract/customer billing guidelines.
Maintain a professional level of confidentiality with billing information.
Ensure a steady project billing cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices in a timely manner.
Work closely with project owners and customers to resolve any billing issues and or discrepancies.
Review the AR aging report regularly, ensuring the collection activities are performed in a timely manner on past-due customer invoices.
Review and record vendor invoices, credit card expenses, and employee expense reports for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with TEC and customer contract reimbursement and payment procedures.
Review and process the weekly AP payment run.
Prepare the expense reports batch to be submitted and paid with each payroll.
Create and maintain vendor record accounts within accounting and project management systems.
Perform month-end close reconciliation responsibilities, which include journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and account analysis for balance sheet and income statements on assigned accounts and projects.
Assists in the gathering of information for the annual financial statement audit.
Maintain and enforce accounting policies, practices, and procedures and communicate changes to staff.
Ad Hoc reporting and additional assignments and projects as requested.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 3 to 5 years related work experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience; Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Knowledgeable with grant billing, including Fringe Benefit calculations; Must have excellent organizational skills; Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, subcontracts, corporate policies, etc. ; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; writes clearly and informatively; presents numerical data effectively; ability to read and interpret written information; Ability to speak effectively before vendors and customers, employees and management; Expert knowledge of Oracle Netsuite and Open Air systems; Intermediate experience with Google applications, including Google Drive management; Intermediate to Advanced Excel Skills, such as pivot tables and v-lookup, Excellent oral and written communication skills for presenting numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information; Proficient in English (verbal and written); Strong analytical skills to synthesize complex or diverse information; Collects and researches data; Strong problem-solving skills required to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner demonstrated by gathering and analyzing information skillfully, developing alternative solutions, working well in group problem-solving situations; Strong project management skills - Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks; Ability to complete assignments in a thorough, accurate, and timely manner; Meticulous attention to detail and follow-through in tasks that meet contract deliverables; Demonstrated adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events; Demonstrated dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Takes responsibility for own actions; Keeps commitments; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach deadlines; Valid driver’s license, insurance and access to a vehicle for travel to meetings and events; Must be available to work outside of regular business hours, when needed; and Active cell phone plan service COMPANY DESCRIPTION The Energy Coalition (TEC) is a California-based 501(c)3 nonprofit with almost fifty years of experience partnering with communities, public agencies, private companies, educators, and policymakers to design and implement sustainability strategies.

This hiring range is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the salary range at the time of the posting and is subject to change.
The actual compensation offered will be determined by various factors, including a candidate’s experience, education, training, skills, and certifications.
