GIS Developer, AXA DCP Location: Milan/ Naples – Italy AXA’s Management Committee is driving a unique strategic initiative - Digital Commercial Platform (DCP) – designed to transform AXA’s value proposition.
Through DCP, AXA will serve existing and new clients and partners through an evolving business model, where the focus is on risk prediction, prevention and management.
AXA DCP relies on creating a platform of AXA’s risk insights, risk management, and risk prevention capabilities to enhance and support our service offering to commercial clients and third parties.
End users will be able to access a broad selection of data built on existing or developing AXA assets.
The platform will also create value by monetizing unique capabilities and services for our customers, aggregating, and delivering insights from unique data sets with external partners, and fostering end-customer relationships in alignment with brokers.
AXA DCP aims to: Improve our underwriting pricing and claims capabilities across the commercial lines book of business of AXA Group Create a platform for risk management and prevention services Build an ecosystem of business partners The GIS Developer role is embedded in the global Risk Consulting team working directly for AXA Digital Commercial Platform.
In this role, you will be reporting to the Head of GIS, within the global Natural Hazards and Climate Change team.
Your in-depth knowledge of GIS, geospatial data and map services will be key to feed and constantly innovate our geospatial and natural catastrophe tools, enabling AXA DCP to provide reliable risk analysis and data to their clients through the platform.
Furthermore, you will be working with client and brokers to provide geospatial analyses across the globe and to develop bespoke geospatial solutions, in collaboration with several AXA Innovation teams.
DISCOVER your opportunity What will your essential responsibilities include? Work closely with the AXA XL and DCP Risk Consulting team to bolster the development of geospatial, natural catastrophes, and climate change solutions for DCP and AXA XL Develop geospatial data products and analytics from core datasets available in DCP, to be implemented.
The core datasets will include, location data, climate data, satellite data, hazard maps and similar geospatial datasets Create, publish, and manage Map services, Image services and Geoprocessing services, using the ESRI model builder and/or bespoke coding ( Python) Develop prototypal GIS applications, useful as proofs of concept for DCP industrialization and scaling.
Your key mission will be to maintain, improve and expand the AXA XL GIS infrastructure and the related applications, used by Risk Consultants, Underwriters and Claims Managers across the globe.
You will work closely with the Head of GIS and the Natural Hazards & Climate Change Risk Consulting Manager to develop executable plans for the development, maintenance and improvement of current and future web services, applications, and tools within defined timelines.
You will be the go-to person for all geospatial related queries from internal teams or external clients.
You will be working very closely with Risk Consultants, Underwriters and Claims Managers where your specific knowledge on geospatial data and bespoke analyses will provide the key input information to improve risks and reduce loss activities.
You will work closely with the internal and external infrastructure teams to evolve the current cloud-based infrastructure and help the IT support team, when needed.
You will liaise and work closely with our software providers and third-party data vendors in order to keep atop of infrastructure upgrades and data updates.
You will be the forefront of proactive change and progress in the adoption and development of innovative geospatial solutions and GIS technologies, in order to support established and new business needs As a key member of the Natural Catastrophes and Climate Change team and of AXA DCP, you will jointly meet with clients and brokers to collect needs, develop and deliver risk consulting services.
Your work will mostly be desk-based.
Occasionally, Risk Consulting services will need to be verified through on-site visits, or physical meetings with international teams will be required.
Thus, you will need to be prepared to spend some time away from your desk.
You will be working in compliance with our technical rules and guidelines.
For this you will be working closely with our regional and country managers.
You will be sharing your knowledge and expertise with colleagues who are interested in learning about GIS and geospatial analyses.
SHARE your talent We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: You have an M Sc. in Geography, Geospatial Analysis, Data Science, Math, Information Technology Engineering, Architecture/ Urban Planning, or any other academic curriculum in which geospatial analysis are relevant.
You have full proficiency in English - other languages are a plus.
You have experience as a GIS analyst, with proven track record of having developed GIS applications and bespoke map services and AP Is.
You have proven working knowledge of ESRI products, such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise ( ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Web Adaptors and ArcGIS Data Store, ArcGIS Image Server), ArcGIS Online, Web App Builder.
You have a hands-on experience in creating, publishing, and managing Map services, Image services and Geoprocessing services, both using the ArcGIS model builder and Python.
The knowledge of ArcGIS python API ( Arc Py), and other geospatial Python libraries ( geopandas, gdal, sf, numpy, rasterio, netcdf4, etc) is considered a plus.
You have experience of building new web-based applications, following Customer requirements, in ESRI ArcGIS environment.
A working knowledge of Javascript and any other GIS environment ( Qgis, Mapbox) is considered a plus.
You have excellent coding skills: Python coding is a required skill, while , Javascript, R, or other coding languages, will be considered a plus.
You have good knowledge of IT infrastructures and databases.
Experience in MS SQL and/or PostgreSQL is preferred.
You have a proven scientific, data-oriented, mindset and strong data processing skills, being able to understand and process data quickly and creatively.
You are used to working autonomously, you are curious and a highly motivated self-starter, you have good relationship skills and are a great team player.
